Divining Divinity: Seeking the Gods of Britain

Sign up or log in to save this to your schedule and see who's attending!

Set in writing during medieval times, but believed to have their origins in Celtic Pagan Britain, the myths and legends of Wales do not directly identify any divinities -- yet figures such as Rhiannon, Ceridwen, and Lleu are nonetheless widely worshiped by modern Pagans as gods. Using etymology, linguistics, syncretism, and symbology, we will explore some of the major figures from the Welsh pantheon in order to excavate the truth of their natures. We will also consider the broader question of what constitutes a god, as well as the connection between cultural needs and cosmological development.
